Category Groups
Settings → Category Groups lets you create rollup mappings that group raw category values into higher-level labels. For example, you might group individual class names like "Power Yoga" and "Vinyasa Flow" into a "Yoga" category, or map pricing tiers into "Premium" and "Standard."
Category Groups is an admin-only feature. Team members without admin access won't see this tab.
Creating a group
- Choose a group name (the rollup scheme, e.g., "Class Category")
- Select a category key (the dimension to group, e.g., service type)
- Map individual raw values to group labels
Unmapped values pass through as-is — you only need to map the values you want to roll up.
Filter bar and search
Use the search bar at the top to filter mappings by name. The Ungrouped toggle shows only unmapped values, making it easy to find new categories that need to be assigned.
Dirty-state save guard
If you've made changes and try to navigate away, you'll see a confirmation prompt to prevent losing unsaved work.
Using groups in Insights
On the Insights page, select a group-based view mode to see your data rolled up by the group labels you defined. This lets you compare "Yoga vs. Strength vs. Cardio" instead of dozens of individual class names.
Category groups also work in distribution charts, showing bars grouped by your rollup labels.
Filtering without grouping
You can also filter by group labels without breaking the chart out by them. Every category group you create surfaces as a multi-select filter in the Insights filter bar — pick the labels you want and the chart restricts to events that match, while keeping its existing group-by axis.
This is useful when you want to compare two breakdowns (for example, total revenue by location) but only across a subset of categories (only "Premium" pricing tiers).
